What is Teleprompting?

There are 4 critical reasons to use a Teleprompter for your presentation.

  1. In a word, TRUST.
Eye contact with your audience conveys a much higher degree of trust that the message you are delivering is the truth. Even though an audience recognizes the Teleprompter for what it is, any presenter that can maintain eye contact with his or her audience is automatically a trusted messenger. And if your message is important, then it must be delivered so as to be believed.
  2. To ensure accuracy.
Many presentations include complex concepts and tongue-twisting terms. We also live in an age of increased litigation and regulation, so a lot of information has to be presented in very precise terms. People speaking extemporaneously or from memory may forget some important points or overstate others.
  3. To relieve stress on the presenter.
Very few people have the time or the ability to memorize a lengthy presentation. What’s more, even a professional talent dealing
with 30-seconds of copy will often experience milliseconds of panic in remembering the next word. This may be reflected in facial expressions (that “deer in the headlights” look), body language, and vocal inflections.
  4. To Save Time and Money.
As the old saying goes, “Time is Money.” We’ve all been there. The simple shoot that should take an hour or so suddenly becomes a never-ending nightmare because the talent just can’t get the words right. Or maybe you’re trying to do several pieces and you need to keep stopping to give the talent time to study each new script.

With prompting, you can be done on schedule. With prompting, it’s 1-2-3 and you’re wrapped.

Let’s face it, the motivational speaker that you hire to present in front of your entire company has given his talk hundreds of times. The content is the same. He/she has it memorized and delivers it day after day, exactly the same. Well, almost exactly. Even these professional speakers still change a word here and there; leave out a sentence or even entire portions of the presentation depending on time available and who the audience is.

But as a company executive, you may have a very specific set of information that needs to be presented to your entire team; just once, but very accurately. Maybe it’s the company financials or information about an upcoming merger or acquisition. Whatever the case, the words must be perfect. And facing a live audience with any kind of presentation is man’s second greatest fear (the first is death). Having the words right in front of you, on time and as you need them will help make your fears disappear.

If you were a professional presenter like the aforementioned Motivational Speaker, then you would not be the CEO, COO, CFO etc. of your company. But you can present like a professional presenter.  Just work with a Teleprompter and an experienced operator, and your team will never know that presenting information live isn’t your main job.

Teleprompting is comprised of three key elements; a finely tuned presentation, the proper equipment to match the situation and the experienced operator to keep pace with you.
